Error Control Coding for Security

Information and communication technologies (ICT) have become an infrastructure for national socioeconomic development. As the demand for ICT is continuously growing, spectral efficiency, communication reliability, and throughput are prominent keys for all modern communication systems. To serve such a demand, error control coding technology has been applied to many communication systems as well as communication-like systems, such as hard disk drive. This project aims at research and development on error control coding applications for the systems that require tight security such as satellite communications, mobile systems, Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMax), unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology, hard disk systems, and quantum cryptography. Objectives of this project are as follows:

         - Create a knowledge base of error control coding
         - Develop a simulation software for system design and test
         - Develop a hardware prototype i.e. an intellectual property (IP) core

The development of this kind of technologies could (i) optimize the use of limited resources, (ii) increase the quality of products and services, and (iii) increase consumer's interest, especially in terms of reasonable price and accessibility. Furthermore, this project will target at a class of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes which is regarded as one of the promising choices for many applications in the near future due to its advantages of on-chip implementation.
